Are there any
qualification requirements?
Yes. Financial Advisers must be independent and fee-based. They must also
hold one or more of the following designations: 1) Certified Financial
Planner ("CFP"), 2) Certified Public Accountant
("CPA"), 3) Registered Investment Adviser ("RIA") or
4) must hold a required Series 65, Series 63, Series 7 or equivalent
license based on the service they provide.
We define fee-based and independent as follows:
-
Fee-Based - We define a "fee-based"
financial adviser as one who is compensated by fees, but who may
choose to accept commissions or other third-party compensation as well.
In many cases, commissions are the only form of compensation available
to an adviser (e.g. insurance) or have a lower overall cost to the
consumer. Advisers should communicate to the potential client what fees they
will charge.
-
Independent - We define
"independent" as a financial adviser who does not sell
proprietary products from the same firm they work for. For example, a fee-based financial adviser who works for
Merrill Lynch would not qualify because Merrill Lynch sells
proprietary mutual funds. A financial adviser that uses an independent
broker dealer such as LPL or 1st Global would qualify.
Each adviser must complete and sign our
membership agreement upon joining. The full details of this agreement can
be found by clicking here. (Adobe
Format Document) or contact our office via e-mail
or by phone at 516-682-8279.
What exactly do I get when I
join the marketing program?
You will receive the following:
- Qualified
Leads from 1-800-ADVISER -
Prospective clients who are looking for an independent fee-based
financial adviser are more likely to call
1-800-ADVISER
because it is easy to remember. The company markets this number on a
national basis and on our consumer web site www.The-Adviser.com.
Your
firm is listed in a geographical database maintained by the company.
Prospective clients that do not have a current financial adviser can
choose to receive a listing of financial advisers in their preferred
geographic area or they can be routed to the closest financial adviser
in their area.
- Geographical
Preference -
Based on a specific and proprietary formula used by firms such as
1-800-Flowers, 1-800-Dentist and 1-800-Attorney, we limit the number
of financial advisers per geographic location. When you call to join,
we will let you know whether or not your geographic area is
available.
- Qualified
leads from The-Adviser.com - If you have
an existing web site, we can link directly to your web site so that prospective
clients can learn more about your individual firm. If you do not have
a web site, we offer a complete package of
web site design and hosting
services.
How many calls
will I receive & what type of marketing do you do?
The exact number of calls are based
on the number of interested clients in your geographic area. Marketing efforts
occur as follows:
